If Fronteira is Lisbon's most refined 17th-century house, Pena is Portugal's most theatrical 19th-century palace: red and yellow towers on a forested peak above Sintra, built for King Ferdinand II.
Sintra is about 40 minutes from Lisbon by train. The Pena ticket is timed, and in high season the slots sell out, so book it first and fit Fronteira around it.
Doing both gives you two very different ideas of a Portuguese palace in a couple of days, and the private Royal Palaces tour on this site combines them in one.
Arrive early, the climb to the palace is steep and the shuttle queues can be long. Wear good shoes and allow time for the park, which is half the experience.

You have a second day and want Sintra. You prefer to travel independently by train.
You'd rather not handle Sintra logistics yourself: the private Royal Palaces tour includes Pena and Fronteira with transport.
